U.S. authorities are seeking new and tougher rules for all U.S.-bound airlines and foreign airports to prevent terrorist attacks in the country.
In an announcement on Wednesday, Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly said the new measures include using US Customs and Border Patrol agents doing “preclearance” immigration processing of US-bound passengers before they board their flights to the US.
Kelly also said the United States have already established such setup in 15 locations in six countries, including Canada, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates.
Kelly added that airlines will be pressed to adopt a mix of new measures, including installing new screening technology, making more use of chemical sniffer dogs, and other unspecified steps, reports AFP.
The Homeland Security, however, is not expanding the scope of the laptop ban in US-bound flights.
