Eight Asian nationals, including three women, were arrested in a sting operation of Abu Dhabi Police after a tip-off that they peddle crystal meth among the youth.
The authorities seized half a kilo of the illegal drugs from the gang, Emaratalyoum.com news portal reported.
Col. Taher Gharib Al-Dhaheri, Head of the Directorate of Drug Control in the Criminal Security Sector, said an informant reported that the group had been keeping narcotic substances and intended to distribute them among the youth.
Initial investigations led to the confirmation of their illegal activity. After legal and tactical procedures had been laid out, the authorities managed to arrest all members of the gang in a raid.
Al-Dhaheri said police forces were able to seize a number of ‘sensitive electronic scales’ used for drugs, in addition to other drug paraphernalia.
The gang members confessed targeting the youth in their illegal activity.
Al-Dhahiri underscored the keenness of Abu Dhabi Police and its leadership to eradicate the scourge of drugs in the country.
