Sharjah doubles rent contract fee from August

SHARJAH: The emirate’s municipality has increased the residential rent contract attesting fee from 2 percent to 4 percent of the annual rent from August 1.

“Pursuant to the Executive Council Decision No 26 of 2016 concerning the modification of the fees schedule of tenancy contract attest in Sharjah, the new fee structure will come into force as of 1/8/2016 to be as follows, residential contract: 4 percent of annual rent, commercial contracts: 5 percent of annual rent and investment contracts: 3 percent of annual rent,” Emirates 24/7 quoted the civic body as saying.

It added that fees of lease agreement documents (of all types) will be Dh100, up from the existing Dh50.

The municipality also called upon all real estate offices licensed to operate in the emirate to register with the municipality’s e-tenancy contract service to get tenancy contracts attested through this service, the report said.

“Please note that the renewal of the residential and commercial tenancy contracts will no longer be attested for real estate offices through the traditional method, as the attestation will only be done through the electronic system as of September 1, 2016,” it reportedly said.

Real estate offices will be held responsible for any legal consequences that may arise from their failure to register in the e-tenancy contract service, the municipality was quoted as saying by the news portal.
