Dubai outlines safety regulations on handling food while shopping

Dubai has opened up the majority of its shopping destinations and leisure areas, and has amplified its call to the public to always keep in mind the best practices when handling food.
The Executive Council in Dubai, in coordination with the Dubai Health Authority and the Dubai Municipality, has laid out six quick reminders for both UAE citizens and residents who plan to shop for their groceries.
– The greatest risk of contamination remains contact with other people and surfaces that are exposed to frequent contact, such as food balance surfaces, shopping carts, and elevator buttons.
– Avoid shopping if you are sick. Instead, rely on ordering your food needs online and home delivery.
– Try to reduce visits to the supermarket and food stores by pre-planning of your food needs. Replace the cash payment with payment using the bank card to avoid exchanging money and invoices, and it is preferable to pay electronically if the service is available via mobile phone.
– Buy chilled or frozen food at the end of the shopping trip to avoid melting of these products and staying out of the refrigerator for long periods. Place frozen and raw foods such as meat, eggs and fish in separate bags from the rest of the food products.
-Try to reduce visits to the supermarket and food stores by pre-planning of your food needs. Make sure to read the shelf life of food and storage instructions on the packages, and make sure the cans are intact and not dented.
– Avoid touching your face, nose, eyes and mouth before washing your hands.

Officials also strongly advise the following tips while you’re in the grocery store:
– Avoid scheduling trips to the supermarket during rush hours, and always wear a face mask and hand gloves.
– Ahead of your trip, prepare a list of groceries outlining essential items needed.
– Choose long-lasting goods, and ensure you are aware of the production and expiration dates.
– Make sure to read the shelf life of food and storage instructions on the packages, and make sure the cans are intact and not dented.
– Ensure you read nutrition labels found on products’ packaging, and buy nutrient-rich and healthy foods
