Dubai builds floating miniature replica of Venice

Listen up, ka-TFT in the UAE!

A miniature version of Venice will be floating 2.5 miles off Dubai’s coast soon, complete with 12 restaurants, an underwater spa, and gondolas imported straight from the famous Italian city.

Claimed to be the world’s “first five-star floating destination”, The Floating Venice is a massive project by Property developer Kleindienst Group, costing around Dh2.5 billion.

“Our aim is to enhance the landscape of real estate and hospitality and deliver a new iconic experience. The Floating Venice is the epitome of this innovation and spirit, the world’s first luxury underwater vessel resort,” Kleindienst Group CEO Josef Kleindienst said in a statement.

According to its developers, the resort will have the capacity for up to 3,000 guests in a daily basis. It will have accommodations, restaurants, and recreation which would be split over four decks, with one planned to be located underwater.

The Floating Venice will showcase 414 bespoke cabins, 12 restaurants, 12 floating beaches, and bars – three of it will be placed underwater.

The future tourist attraction will also have over 400,000 square feet of coral planted around from an own on-site coral nursery.

Those who will accommodate the resort can arrive by boat, helicopter, or seaplane to the main Piazza San Marco where they will have to check-in at the underwater lobby.

To have the full Venice experience, visitors can use the Venice-trademark gondolas, which is reportedly imported from Venice. They can also use the walkways and bridges to their cabins.

Kleindienst said The Floating Venice is designed to have a 100-year lifespan.

The underwater sections of The Floating Venice will be constructed using concrete while the upper decks will use marine lightweight materials.

The construction will begin in the first quarter of 2018 and is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2020.
