President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the resignation of Bureau of Corrections Chief Nicanor Faeldon immediately.
“I am firing Faeldon now, right now,” Duterte told reporters in Malacanang.
This, amid the controversies hounding the implementation of the Good Conduct Time Allowance Law (GCTA).
Faeldon came under fire after documents showed that he freed several heinous crime convicts.
The President said that he is calling for an Ombudsman investigation on the controversy involving the Bureau of Corrections.
“Faeldon has to go because Faeldon disobeyed my order,” Duterte added.
He also said that those who have been released under the GCTA should surrender themselves and register to the BuCor.
“Lahat ng nakulong at na-release sa batas na ito, you surrender and have yourselves registered to the BuCor. Make yourselves available to be investigated,” Duterte added.
