A survey revealed that Filipinos’ top worries are threats of natural disasters and cyber security.
The 2017 Unisys Security Index survey showed Filipinos topped the list of 13 nationalities that worry about natural disasters, identity thefts, paying debts, personal safety, and online shopping.
The survey showed 93 percent of Filipinos said threats of natural disasters and identity thefts are the top concerns in the country.
John Kendall, Unisys director of border and national security programs, said the worry about identity theft was dominant when the Commission on Elections’ website was compromised, which led to the breach of personal data of millions of voters ahead of the national polls on May 9, 2016.
“[This underscored] the very real threat that their personal details may be stolen and sold on the dark web,” Kendall said.
Among the 13 countries surveyed in the study, Philippines was the only country to rank natural disasters as a top concern due to the region’s vulnerability to calamities.
The survey was participated by Mexico, Malaysia, Brazil, Argentina, United States, Colombia, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, United Kingdom, Germany and Netherlands.
