Overseas Filipino workers (OFW) ID will replace the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) this month, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced on Monday.
In an interview with Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson, Bello said OFWs will no longer need to obtain an OEC to be deployed abroad and just need to get the OFW ID from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration for free.
“Pag meron na kayo n’un, ‘yun na ang substitute ng OEC. Hindi niyo na kailangan mag-apply pa ng OEC,” GMA News quoted Bello as saying.
The announcement is a welcome news to OFWs, who regard the OEC as useless and added inconvenience and expense to them.
Bello said the OFW ID will be formally launched in the middle of this month.
