Makati court didn’t issue arrest warrant against Trillanes

The Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 148 deferred its decision to issue a warrant of arrest against beleaguered Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Thursday.

The Makati court instead gave Trillanes 10 days to file a response on the petition of the Department of Justice (DOJ), reported ABS-CBN News.

DOJ filed a petition on Wednesday reiterating that a warrant of arrest must be issued against Trillanes in connection to the 2003 Oakwood mutiny.

Branch 148 of the Makati City Regional Trial Court also gave state prosecutors 5 days to file a rejoinder on Trillanes’ reply.

After the submission of the DOJ’s response, it is the only time when a motion to issue an arrest warrant can be submitted to Judge Andres Bartolome Soriano, the presiding judge of Makati RTC Branch 148, for resolution.

“In a motion, it’s usually 30 days but given the scenario, or the immediate need to resolve the motion, it’s up to the Judge whether to resolve it in a shorter time,” Clerk of Court Maria Rhodora Peralta said.
