Don’t get us wrong. Being in Manila requires extra caution, especially if you want to keep yourself and your belongings safe. But it’s not without its charms. Many people take the city for granted that they don’t realize the many beautiful spots to see in it.
And now that Manila is being revamped in a way we’ve never seen before, it’s indeed the perfect time to rediscover the beauty of this charming city. Here are some of the things you should check out:
Intramuros
The “Walled City” is perhaps one of the most beautiful spots in Manila. Walking through this oldest district—with its Spanish-era and old-charm architecture—truly feels like going down history lane. But if you want to learn more about its stories, you should also visit Fort Santiago—a 16th-century fortress that used to protect the district.
Binondo
Foodies and oriental design enthusiasts will surely find a haven in Binondo—said to be the world’s oldest Chinatown. From the best and most authentic Chinese delicacies (think Chinese handmade dumplings and noodles), to various Asian-inspired accessories and furniture, Binondo is indeed the place to be.
Luneta/Rizal Park
A visit to a city won’t be complete without checking out its park. Manila’s Luneta Park is perfect for when you just want to be surrounded by a lake, trees, flora and fauna, and just chill with your buddies or your significant other. The park also houses the century-old monument of National Hero Jose Rizal, a reason it is also referred to as Rizal Park.
Quiapo
It may be chaotic for most, but Quiapo Church is something you should miss when you visit Manila. Every Friday, expect heavy traffic and congestion in this century-old church as people do their worship and prayers to pay respect to the Black Nazarene. It can be an interesting scene, seeing the immense devotion of the Filipino people.
National Museum
This museum, perhaps one of the biggest in the country, has four main complexes that showcase different types of artworks and artifacts. You can see here massive collections relating to art, archaeology, anthropology, zoology, biology, and natural history.
