Oman closes down borders to fight COVID-19 spread

Oman has closed down its borders and suspended public transportation in its bid to fight the coronavirus disease or COVID-19 spread.
“As of tomorrow, only Omanis will be allowed to enter the country, and no Omanis will be allowed to travel abroad,” WAF News state media said on Twitter.
The government said that it is one of the drastic measures being undertaken by Oman to limit the spread of COVID-19.
“A decision to stop all public transportation in the Sultanate, including buses, ferries, taxis—with the exception of buses and ferries traveling to and from the Musandam Governorate and the state of Masirah— will take effect from19 March 2020 until further notice,” The Ministry of Transport said in a Tweet.
Markets, malls, restaurants, tourist attractions, mosques, sports centers and cultural clubs were also ordered close on Wednesday.
Grocery stores, pharmacies, clinics and optical shops will remain open while mass gatherings are prohibited.
Oman has reported 33 cases of COVID-19, with 12 people recovering so far. The first two cases were confirmed in the country on February 24.
