Asian sentenced to 7 years in Bahrain jail for bank theft

A Bahraini court of appeals sentenced an Asian to 7 years in prison and ordered his deportation after he was convicted of stealing large sums of money through bank cash machines by using a data card reader.

Police arrested the man after one of his fake ATM cards he was using got stuck in the machine and he was reported to the police.

As he tried to retrieve the card from the machine in a shopping mall in the capital Manama, police had already arrived and waited for him.

Once he stepped out of the ATM cabin in the mall, the cops seized him, according to the Arabic language daily Al Ayam.

It said police searching his house found many ATM cards, a data card reading machine, and a large sum of money in various currencies.

Newspapers said the court also fined the defendant 10,000 dinars ($26,000).
