Bahrain to ban plastic table rolls

Bahrain continuously shows its seriousness in minimizing plastic use, this time with the declaration of its plan to ban non-biodegradable table plastic rolls.

In a report by The Daily Tribune News of Bahrain, the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) announced its plan to ban plastic table rolls as part of its second phase of the ministerial resolution—the Ministerial Order Number 11. This is in line with the kingdom’s goal to curb the amount of plastic in the kingdom.

The first phase ministerial order has been implemented last July under the directives of the Government Executive Committee and the Ministerial Committee for Urbanisation and Infrastructure’s order about plastic regulation. This included banning non-biodegradable garbage bags.

More items will also be included in the second phase of the ban, which is said to kick off in July 2020.

SCE said that companies that need to continue using plastic bags will need to apply for a license. Otherwise they are required to replace them with biodegradable garbage bags.
