Bohol vendor uses banana leaves to wrap salt instead of plastic

A salt vendor from Bohol  earned praise on Facebook for coming up with the eco-friendly packaging.

Instead of using plastic, Ceferina Montano, a salt vendor at Catigbian Public Market, wrapped her salt in banana leaves.

Netizen Danila Cuadra posted a photo of Montano.

She praised the vendor for heeding the call to “No Plastic” to reduce the plastic pollution posing risk to marine life.

Cuadra said the scene melts her heart, and that she hopes other businessmen will follow Ceferina’s example.

The Philippines has become the world’s third largest source of plastic leaking into the ocean, and has among the highest trash collection rates in Southeast Asia.
