One of life’s simplest joys is the opportunity to take care of a pet at home. You’ll get to see it grow together with you and your loved ones as it becomes part of your family.
As a responsible pet owner, one of the most important things you should keep in mind is to keep your pet clean and groomed – and Tail-Waggin’ a Filipino-owned pet hotel and mobile grooming station has been in the service of many expats, including fellow Filipinos to care for their pets here in the UAE. Carl Laguerta, owner of Tail-Waggin’, shares how the mobile grooming station morphed into a one-stop shop over the course of a decade.
Pioneers in Mobile Pet Grooming
While Tail’Waggin’ recently opened its Pet Hotel located at Warehouse # 7, 8th street, Al Khail Road in Al Quoz-1 in Dubai, the team has long been in operations for the past 10 years. “We started with mobile pet grooming na nagba-bahay bahay lang kami to do it from 10 years back. We go to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, as we can do the grooming in our fully customized van. We go beyond and bring the convenience of pet grooming in their own driveway,” said Laguerta.
With the rise in demand for pet grooming coming from expats of various nationalities, Tail-Waggin’ expanded to their first Pet Hotel to cater to more animals. This, together with their mobile pet grooming, enables them to cover not just Dubai, but the entire UAE too. “The demand is high – that’s why we decided to take this expansion aside from the grooming, nagtayo din kami ng pet hotel, day care – a nursery na iiwan mo yung mga pets para mag socialize. Iba din kasi ang health ng dogs pag na socialize, na exercise at nailalabas,” shares Laguerta.
Treating your pets as family members
From his experiences of caring for pets from his youth, Laguerta said that one of the most important life lessons when taking care of pets is to treat them like family members. “If you treat them as a family member, you have to consider their feelings. You have to give time to them, and once you do, you’ll be able to check their behavior, their personality, what do they need, i-c-check mo kung may sakit sila or if they’re feeling uneasy at hindi mo sila iiwan kahit when they are not already favorable or matanda na or pangit na,” said Laguerta.
Tail-Waggin’ is located at Warehouse # 7, 8th street, Al Khail Road in Al Quoz-1 in Dubai with Mobile Grooming Services available across all Emirates. They can be reached at 050 366 6622 or at www.tailwaggin.ae
How to keep your pet’s health in check
Carl Laguerta, owner of Tail-Waggin a Filipino-owned pet hotel and mobile grooming station, said that it’s important for pets to not just be clean on the outside, they have to be checked to make sure their health is in top shape. He advises pet owners to monitor the following for their beloved pets:
Grooming. First on the list is maintaining the outward appearance of the pet, most especially its fur and skin. “That is our forte sa Tail-Waggin’ kasi grooming is very important for the pets. Pag hindi ka marunong mag groom tapos nilalakad mo yung pet sa labas, you might not notice na meron na palang garapata or may ticks na nakakapit,” said Laguerta.
Sufficient Physical Exercise and Socialization. The owner of Tail-Waggin’ added that pets should get enough exercise and get to meet other pets so that they avoid the feeling of being left alone which often leads to stress. “I understand we are all busy and we tend to buy a pet tapos stationary lang sa bahay kasi ayaw madumihan. So it’s a health issue din in terms of physical fitness and overweight na or minsan, na-s-stress din ang aso so dapat na-so-socialize din once in a while,” adds Laguerta.
Dental Hygiene. Seeing that one of the pet’s basic needs would be to eat, most pet owners either often forget to have their pet’s teeth cleaned out or perhaps might be struggling with their pet’s dental care. “Minsan yung mga aso ayaw magpalinis ng ngipin. For Tail-Waggin’, every pet grooming service that you avail with our company, teeth brushing is required. Pati cats. We also just clip nails, but we don’t declaw. We refer that to the vet,” said Laguerta.
