Veteran actor Eddie Garcia, who has remained in coma, today won another Gawad Urian Best Actor award and for the movie ‘ML.’
Garcia portrayed a military official in the time of martial law with alzheimer’s disease in the film together with actor Tony Labrusca.
Garcia is currently in critical condition after suffering from a neck fracture that he got during a taping of a GMA teleserye.
Prior to the show, the program offered a minute of silence for Garcia.
The film’s director Benedict Mique received the award on Garcia’s behalf. He read a letter from the Garcia family.
“Karangalan namin ang inyong muling pagkilala kay Eddie, pangatlo niya na itong award mula sa natatanging Gawad Urian. Natitiyak naming hihingin ni Eddie ang suporta para panoorin ang mga indie films na nagbibigay ng karangalan sa bansa,” the statement said.
The family then recalled how Garcia loved the movie industry.
“Isipin niyong lahat nakatayo siya rito. Punong puno siya ng pagmamahal para sa industriyang Pilipino, na kanyang pinaglingkuran ng 70 taon.,” Mique emotionally read.
