A tech news editor and cybersecurity enthusiast said that the private video of veteran singer Jim Paredes may have been intentionally released by individuals or groups.
Manila Bulletin tech editor Art Samaniego Jr. said in an interview with DZMM Teleradyo that the sexual aspect of the video should not be the main focus because the real issue is that someone violated Paredes’ privacy.
Though the exact reason behind the release of Paredes’ explicit video remains unknown, Samaniego said that the singer may be a victim od of data breach.
“Ito kasi, pribado ito eh. Private moment ito ni Jim Paredes, pero nirecord nung kung sino ang kausap niya. So ito ‘yun, violation ito ng privacy ni Jim. Hindi ito about kung ano ‘yung ginawa niya. Ito, may violation sa privacy ni Jim, at ina-advice ko siya na mag-complain siya sa National Privacy Commission o sa PNP (Philippine National Police),” Samaniego was quoted as saying.
Samaniego added that what happened to Paredes could happen to anyone, so he advised netizens to be careful when talking to someone through an online channel.
“Kung akala mo nakikipag-chat ka lang, ‘wag na ‘wag kang gagawa ng personal na bagay sa video chat mo kasi puwedeng ma-record ‘yan,” he said.
It is known that the singer is a critic of the current administration but Samaniego believes that the release of Paredes’ video is not political.
“Hindi ito political. This has nothing to do with politics, napagtripan lang talaga itong si Jim. Maaring pinoroject siya. Totoong tao ba ‘yung kausap niya?” he said.
Samaniego ended by saying that netizens should always secure their devices to avoid data breach.
He also advised netizens to be aware of the apps that they download on their smartphones.
