Kapuso actress Marian Rivera has been making the rounds online because of her infamous performance at the now-defunct variety show “Party Pilipinas”.
An old clip of Rivera singing Rihanna’s hit song “Unfaithful” has been spreading on social media which drew many reactions from netizens because of the actress’ unique rendition.
The video, which was taken back in 2013, shows Rivera and fellow Kapuso star Glaiza de Castro singing the said song while Rafael Rosell dance next to them. It was part of the farewell event of “Temptation of Wife”, GMA-7’s adaptation of a Korean drama series which the three mentioned celebrities starred in.
While the video was taken 5 years ago, it resurfaced after Regine Velasquez transferred to ABS-CBN. Many netizens poked fun at the video and said that Rivera is all set to take over Velasquez’s place.
However, the Asia’s Songbird is not pleased with how netizens are making fun of Rivera.
It all started when a certain netizen posted a tweet dubbing Rivera as “Asia’s Quail”.
“Please guys, ‘wag na. Inaaanak ko ‘yun please at love ko sila, so please stop na,” Velasquez replied to the tweet urging netizens to refrain from sharing the old clip. “Besides, hindi naman talaga singer ang lola niyo (Rivera). She’s an actress and a very good one so stop na.”
The said netizen then replied to Velasquez’s tweet once again and said that he admires Rivera as an actress but he can’t help but find her rendition of “Unfaithful” entertaining.
But Velasquez told the netizen to stop spreading the video as it may emotionally harm Rivera.
“Okay, but please no more na kasi hindi natin alam baka naman na-hurt na rin siya, di ba? Please napagkatuwaan na naman. Okay na ‘yun,” she said.
Rivera has not made any statement regarding her viral videos, but she did say in an interview that she is happy for Velasquez and that she will continue to support her former GMA colleague despite her network transfer.
“Ang importante diyan, kung saan siya mahalaga. Kung saan siya magiging masaya, doon siya. Kasi bilang kaibigan ko siya at ninang namin siya, e nirerespeto ko kung ano ang desisyon niya,” she said.
