Actor Dingdong Dantes has finally set the record straight after revealing on social media that he has no plans on running for senator in the coming 2019 elections.
Speculations about Dantes running to become a senator started last April when he attended the leadership workshop “Philippine Emerging Leaders Initiative.”
The actor was also quoted in Ricky Lo’s column in The Philippine Star saying, “I will not deny that there are certain groups talking to me. Maybe the question should be… kailangan ba? I mean, I love my family, I love my work as an actor, and I also value my community work. Therefore, it is something that shouldn’t be answered only by me alone.”
However, Dantes ended all speculations when he commented on one of Ogie Diaz’s Facebook posts wherein the actor’s alleged political aspirations was discussed. In Diaz’s social media post titled “Mama Ogs Answers”, the well-known talent manager and showbiz columnist answered some questions about current issues.
One of the questions asked was, “Si Dingdong Dantes, tatakbong senador, okay ba sa’yo, Mama Ogs?”
As a response, Diaz took a slight jab at Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson and said, “Oo naman. Sobra. Mas disente kesa sa Pepederalismo”.
In the comments section of the said post, Diaz wrote that he will be supporting Dantes in case he will run for senator. However, Dantes was quick to reply and said, ”Salamat sa tiwala, Ogie. Pero hindi po ako tatakbong senador”.
Dantes made his revelation only a week after Liberal Party (LP) released the list of their possible senatorial candidates wherein he was included.
Aside from Dantes, the list also included Agot Isidro, Leah Navarro, and Jim Paredes.
