Before becoming one of the most popular comedians in the Philippines with more than 11 millions online followers, Vice Ganda was like any other young talent seeking for luck in singing contests in television shows.
Ironic enough, Vice Ganda once joined a singing competition as Ingrid Montecarlo in variety show Eat Bulaga, It’s Showtime’s rival show.
On July 12 episode of It’s Showtime, the comedian asked the contestant if the name Ingrid Montecarlo rings a bell, to which the contestant responded that it does not.
Vice Ganda then said: “Si Ingrid Montecarlo ang Regine Velasquez ng Sta. Cruz, Maynila. Ako ‘yun.”
The comedian continued by recalling his stint when he joined Eat Bulaga’s singing competition, O Diva.
“Yun ang pangalan ko nang manalo ako sa Eat Bulaga dati, sa O Diva.”
“Sumali ako sa Eat Bulaga dati, O Diva yung contest. Kantahan, singing contest.” he recalled.
The comedian also explained the reason behind the name Ingrid Montecarlo.
“Kasi may clan-clan kaming mga bakla. Montecarlo clan ako dati,” he said.
