Regine Velasquez asks President Duterte to spare God from his speeches

Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez took to Twitter on July 7 to tell her piece about President Rodrigo Duterte’s tirades about God and the Catholic faith.

On her Twitter page, Velasquez said that she doesn’t want to meddle with the issue but she can’t help but feel disappointed because of it.

“Nalulungkot na talaga ako. Hindi ako mahilig makialam sa mga ganito pero Mr. President kuha na po namin na hindi kayo naniniwala kay God,” Velasquez wrote through a series of tweets.

“Pero marami po sa amin ang naniniwala sa kanya. Hindi naman po namumulitika si God kaya wag na po natin siya idamay,” she added.

Recently, President Duterte said that he is willing to resign if those who believe in God would be able to prove his existence by taking a selfie with Him. The president also drew flak for his other comments about the Catholic Church, which include calling God “stupid”, and describing Jesus’ apostles as “idiots”.

The Asia’s Songbird continued by saying the she will continue to pray for the president so that God may show him the right way to lead the country.

Aside from her tweets, Velasquez also posted a photo of a Bible verse on her Instagram account which reads: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. ‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:9”
