Filipino actress Ciara Sotto revealed on a recent episode of GMA’s ‘Tunay na Buhay’ that she experienced a lot of challenges when she moved to the United States.
Sotto decided to live in the US back in 2007 to seek greater career opportunities. However, she revealed on the show that everything did not go as planned.
“I went to States, may offer na mag-so-show sa isang dinner and theater, pero hindi siya natuloy,” Sotto narrated.
“We were rehearsing every day. Ang daming rules: pag tumaba ka, may multa. Ganung level. Pero hindi nag-open ‘yung lugar,” she continued.
The 37-year-old celebrity mom was referring to a certain show called ‘Fever’ which was supposed to be featured in Melanja Sky hotel and restaurant in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Sotto further disclosed that due to the struggles she faced in the US, she decided to work several odd jobs, including being a go-go dancer which she kept as a secret to her parents, Senate President Tito Sotto and actress Helen Gamboa.
“It was hard. Nung akala ko ayoko na, ‘Uwi na ako,’ pero parang dun na-build ang character ko, nung nasa States ako,” she said.
However, Sotto emphasized that she did what she had to do to prove herself.
She recounted that it was her American friends who persuaded her to try go-go dancing because they would be able to earn a hundred dollars for dancing for an hour.
According to online sources, go-go dancers are those who are hired to dance to hype up and entertain a crowd at clubs or raves.
Sotto said that her friends were able to persuade her and she agreed to try it out.
“’Tapos pagdating ko dun, ‘Yeah, but you have to wear this. Parang, ‘Oh, my gosh, no backing out na ‘to!’,” Sotto said.
“So, naka-bra top kami na beaded, yung ganun,” she added.
Sotto said that she did not tell her family in the Philippines about her job in the US, but when they found out about it, she said that they weren’t happy.
However, Sotto defended that she had to everything just to get by in the US. She also revealed that there came a time when she had to sell her mobile phone.
“Nalaman na lang nila after a while, pag-uwi ko. Siyempre hindi sila natuwa. Hindi nila alam yung time na, yun nga, nalaman na lang nila nung naka-uwi na ako. Pero yun, itinuloy ko yun,” she said.
Now, Sotto is back in the Philippines and is currently busy with teaching pole dancing. She also regularly posts about her fitness routine on Instagram.
