New Kapuso star Pokwang revealed her hardships working as a former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in the United Arab Emirates and Japan.
Pokwang said in an interview that she used to work as an OFW in the 1990s.
She used to be a dancer and choreographer in Japan until she decided to transfer to the UAE to work as a domestic helper.
According to her previous interviews, she returned home from Japan when she got pregnant. It was also the time when the Asian country began imposing stricter regulations for migrant workers.
It was in 1988 when she decided to work as a domestic worker in the UAE’s capital Abu Dhabi. However, she had to cut short her employment there upon learning that her son, who was then five years old, was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Her employer initially wanted her to finish her contract. Her son died while she was still in Abu Dhabi.
Pokwang entered show business in 2004 when she won in the contest Clown in a Million.
Early this month, the GMA Artist Center welcomed the veteran comedian.
Pokwang retweeted the announcement confirming her network transfer.
“This is it… thank you po @ArtistCenter @gmanetwork papa God, at sa inyong lahat salamat po sa pagkakataong muling maihatid at maibahagi ko ang aking talento sa inyong lahat na tunay na nagmamahal at sumosuporta” she wrote.
Pokwang teased her Kapuso transfer when she posted a selfie saying she is back to work. Netizens were quick to point out that she was in a GMA 7 dressing room.
Pokwang has been a long time talent of ABS-CBN before the Kapamilya network failed to secure a new franchise.
The comedienne then transferred to TV 5 for a talk and game show which ended after one season.
