The Commission on Elections (Comelec) may be printing close to 80 million ballots for the October 23 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
As of June 19, there are a total of 77,658,205 voters registered to vote in the 2017 village and youth polls, based on the data of their Election and Barangay Affairs Department, according to Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez.
“Please note that this figure represents the combined number of Barangay Voters and Sangguniang Kabataan Election Voters, with only 90.28 percent Project of Precints (POP) reports accounted for so far,” Jimenez said.
The number represents, 56,737,237 for voters 18-years-old and above and 20,920,968 individuals aged 15 to 30-years-old.
Jimenez added that voters aged 18-30 both qualify as regular and youth voters, entitling them to receive two ballots on Election Day.
“For purposes of ballot printing, 18-30 years old will receive both a Barangay Elections ballot and an SK elections ballot; hence the double count which resulted in the 77 million figure,” he explained.
However, the poll body official noted that the figure is likely to change since the POP report is not yet final.
“This means that the figure reported may still change as the POPs are completed,” Jimenez added. (Ferdinand G. Patinio/PNA)
