South Korea on Monday reported another 70 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) bringing the confirmed cases to 833.
Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) recorded 231 new cases of COVID-19, with 161 reported earlier.
South Korea’s tally is the largest national total outside China, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Vice Health and Welfare Minister Kim Gang-lip said, “If authorities fail to contain the spread of the COVID-19 in Daegu, there is a high possibility that COVID-19 could spread nationwide.”
Health authorities is still investigating the cause of the outbreak, as some of the infected cases do not have travel history to China or overseas.

Among the 70 reported, 41 of which are from the city of Daegu, and 12 from North Gyeongsang Province — places where the virus epidemic has been concentrated while the rest of the cases are reported in Seoul, Busan, Daejeon, Ulsan, and Gyeonggi Province.
Half of the country’s COVID-19 cases are attributed to a religious group located in the south of the country.
