The Philippine flag is raised high once again in the international sports stage as Filipino mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Jon Chris Corton of Philippines’ Team Lakay was hailed as the victor in a unanimous decision at the recently held Brave 16 Combat Federation in the capital held last September 21, Friday.
The match was Corton’s debut fight in Brave 16 in the flyweight division where he was up against Bahrain’s Hussain Ayyad. The 25-year old who hails from Benguet was able to dominate Ayyad during all three rounds, leading to his win. “I promise to perform better in my next fight. Please continue supporting Brave and please continue supporting your athletes,” said Corton as he thanked all of the Filipinos and the rest of the audience who watched his triumphant debut fight.
The Philippines also had two other representatives, Team Lakay’s Crisanto Pitpitunge and Vaughn Donayre who both unfortunately lost in their matches. Pitpitunge lost to Bahrain’s Hamza AlKooheji after three rounds in a unanimous decision while Donayre lost via submission during the first round against Brazil’s Flavio Serafin.
Brave 16 Combat Federation saw around 16 nations represented by 22 fighters from around the world. It was a landmark event marking the second anniversary of Brave Combat Federation launched by His Highness Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
