The Philippines settled for 19th place after bagging a total of 21 medals during the two-week-long Asian Games 2018 held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Among the 21 medals, four are gold, two are silver while the remaining 15 are bronze medals.
Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz snatched the first gold for the Philippines after lifting 92 kilograms in the snatch and 115 kilograms in the clean and jerk for a total of 207 kilograms last August 21 at the Jakarta International Expo.
The next two gold medals were from the Philippine national golf team.
Filipino-Japanese golfer Yuka Saso won the women’s individual category in the golf competition while the trio of Saso, Bianca Pagdanganan, and Lois Kaye Go also won the women’s team category.
The fourth gold medal came from 19-year-old skateboarder Margielyn Didal who won the women’s skateboarding street event at the JSC Skateboard Stadium in Palembang, Indonesia.
Meanwhile, boxer Ragon Ladon and judo athlete Kiyomi Watanabe won silver medals for the country in their respective sports.
The remaining 15 bronze medals were from pencak silat (4), taekwondo (3), wushu (2), golf (1), boxing (2), cycling BMX (1), ju-jitsu (1) and karate (1).
The Philippine men’s national basketball team, Gilas finished 5th after dismantling Syria in their last game while the Philippine women’s volleyball team vowed to host country Indonesia in their last game to settle for 8th.
China finished first overall after winning a total of 289 medals – 132 gold, 92 silver, and 65 bronze medals. China was followed by Japan, Republic of Korea, host country Indonesia, and Uzbekistan.
