Filipino-Japanese golfer Yuka Saso brought pride to the country by bagging a gold medal on Sunday during the women’s individual golf in the 2018 Asian Games currently held in Jakarta.
Aside from Saso’s first place finish, the Philippine women’s gold team also bagged another gold while Bianca Pagdanganan won an individual bronze for the country, reported ABS-CBN News.
The third member of the country’s women golf team, Lois Kaye Go finished 17th in the individual play.
Saso bagged the gold after finishing at 13-under 275, which is 3 shots lower than Liu Wenbo of China who won the silver medal.
Meanwhile, Pagdanganan placed third after beating ayaka Furue of Japan in a one-hole playoff.
This was the first time the Philippines won a gold medal in Asian Games golf since Ramon Brobio who won back in 1986.
After the golf team’s win, the Philippines now stand at 16th place in the overall medal tally with three golds and 11 bronze medals.
