The UAE government’s national vaccination drive has covered over 87% of its eligible population, a government official said.
Dr. Farida Al Hosani, official spokesperson of the UAE health sector, also revealed during the latest government media briefing on Tuesday that 97.5% of the people aged over 60 were vaccinated against COVID-19.

As of posting time, the UAE now stands at a vaccination rate of 141.19 doses per 100 eligible people.
Meanwhile, the official said new variants detected around the world pose a high risk to individuals who are not inoculated yet.
She urged the unvaccinated individuals to take the jab as soon as possible.

Dr. Al Hosani said the UAE government emphasized the need for a booster shot, especially for the elderly and those with chronic diseases.
She noted that the booster shots can be the same brand as the original dose or a different one, pending medical evaluation. (RA)
