Two-thirds of Dubai residents who are eligible for vaccination are fully vaccinated against coronavirus, the Dubai Health Authority said on Sunday.
Dr Alawi Al Sheikh Ali, Deputy Director-General of Dubai Health Authority (DHA) said 83% of eligible residents in the emirate have received the first dose while 64% have been fully vaccinated.
He also told Dubai TV that 2.3 million people were administered free COVID-19 vaccines across the emirates six months since it was launched.

Recent statistics by the Dubai Health Authority reveals 9 out of 10 COVID-19 patients who were hospitalized and admitted in the ICU are unvaccinated.
DHA added that eight out of ten people who tested positive for COVID-19 were also unvaccinated.
Meanwhile, Dr Ali bared that nearly 20% of those most vulnerable to serious illness have not yet been vaccinated.

He stressed the importance of taking the COVID-19 vaccine to reduce the risk of severe cases and hospitalization.
“We need to reduce the number of infections among all target groups,” Dr Ali said.
He added: “Our ambition now is to vaccinate 100 per cent of the target groups.”
Dr Ali further said that several studies being conducted in coordination by the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Dubai Data of the Smart Dubai Department have proven the efficiency of vaccines with results compatible with other studies conducted globally. (RA)
