UAE advises motorists against buying used car tyres

UAE traffic authorities have advised motorists on the dangers of buying used car tyres.

The advisory comes after some online advertisements are luring motorists for second hand and rock bottom car tyres.

Experts said that motorists buying old tyres, whether directly from dealers or online, are putting their lives and other road users at grave risk.

Some websites said that the tyres were only used for only 5,000 kilometers.

Experts said that motorists buying old tyres, whether directly from dealers or online, are putting their lives and other road users at grave risk.

These kind of offers are common during the summer season when motorists want to change their worn out tyres.

In a Khaleej Times, the UAE authorities prohibit the sale of used tyres on safety grounds.

“There’s no need to cut corners while buying key car accessories such as tyres that may cost a motorist’s life if h/she opts for used and bad quality stuff,” Jamal Al Amri, a traffic expert said in a report on the Khaleej Times.

“A good quality tyre promotes road safety, especially during summer months,” he said.

“Motorists should refrain from buying used tyres because they lack knowledge about their storage and usage pattern,” the expert continued.

Authorities urge the public to deal with legitimate car tyre sellers.

The Abu Dhabi Police also warned that expired tyres could put motorists’ life at risk because they may burst during high temperature. The used tyres can also cause fatal accidents.

The police said that motorists caught driving with damaged or worn-out tyres are liable to pay a Dh500 fine along with four black points.

The vehicles will also be impounded for a week. (TDT)
