Motorists caught overtaking using the emergency lane will be fined AED 1000 and issued six black points according to Article No. 42 of the Federal Road and Traffic Law in the UAE.
The Abu Dhabi Police reiterated this warning on Friday through a video it released on its official Twitter handle showing drivers committing the offence.

The video was made in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police Follow-up and Control Center and as part of the “You Comment” to send the message across so that motorists drive carefully.
Police affirmed that using the emergency shoulder to overtake other vehicles was dangerous as it could hinder the movement of emergency vehicles, potentially preventing them from reaching accident sites on time and costing lives.
