An author in Saudi Arabia has encouraged all sectors to support the availability of children’s books at schools and elsewhere, Arab News reported.
At the Jeddah Book Fair, author Rand Saber said that while children’s stories in Saudi have seen a huge development in terms of quality, there is still a long way to go for the Kingdom to be able to compete with international titles and that more support is needed from the public and private sectors.
Saber has worked on a few children’s books over the years, with her story “An Idea to Change the World” winning third at Abdulhameed Shawman Foundation competition in 2018, held in Jordan.
The author, however, also believed the Jeddah Book Fair is a start. The event featured 350,000 books from 400 publishing houses in 40 different countries, and was attended by almost 270,000 guests—including 200 authors who signed their work for the fans.
