Lack communication a major reason for divorce in Saudi

A study in Saudi showed that 85.4% of divorce cases in the kingdom are due to lack of communication, Saudi Gazette reported.

National Dialogue Center (NDC)’s research, which covered all 13 administrative regions and was published by local newspaper Al-Madina, said that many Saudi married couples get divorced because of lack of communication.

The study also showed that 82.9% of the divorced are among young men and women not shouldering responsibility towards the marriage, while 83.8% are due to drugs and alcohol addiction. About 54% of the cases, meanwhile, are due to the wrong choice of partners.

Also, around half of the surveyed individuals believed that another major reason of divorce is financial problems. Exactly 66.4%, meanwhile, said it the divorce was caused by too much control from the spouse.

The study added that the number of divorce cases in Saudi is increasing, and that around five cases are filed every hour.

The survey, Saudi Gazette reported, aims to enlighten the kingdom about married life and the negative effects of divorce. It seeks to encourage government agencies to provide counseling to engaged couples.
