4 Reasons ‘On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets’ is the perfect anti-romcom film this love month

JC Santos and Bela Padilla first teamed up on the box office hit “100 Tula Para Kay Stella,” which gave light to their undeniable chemistry. After a few films after that first pair-up, the two once again made hearts wrench and rise, this time with ‘On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets.’ What’s different about this new project of theirs is that while it’s marketed as a love story, it’s actually far from that.
It’s way better.
On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets delves deeper than ‘boy-meet-girl’ scenarios. These reasons make the film the anti-thesis to your traditional romantic story—which actually makes it a lot more meaningful.

The film makes you realize the importance of self-worth
Jane is the perfect representation of the woman who has not found her worth because she was surrounded by the wrong people and had been exposed in wrong environments. After her father died of alcoholism, she became an actress at an early age, and was subjected to intense pressure. She was also involved with a violent man who abused her physically and mentally, allowing her to think she is worth nothing.
In 90 percent of the movie, we see her shunning people away with her hard attitude, but when she met Francis, she was reminded that she’s already okay on her own—a refreshing feeling that will help her realize it later on in the film.
The right person will encourage you to be better
Jane was involved in a violent man, which further distanced her from realizing her worth. It was when she met Francis that she actually got the courage to stand up and pursue a path to be better—throwing away all her alcohol and, in the process, getting the therapy she needs.
It makes you believe there is nothing wrong with asking for help
Bela Padilla magnificently portrayed an alcoholic failure of an actress in the film, heavily relying on liquor to be fearless and not realizing how it has caused her to make destructive life decisions. Even if she already has Francis and her mother to depend on, in the end, real help is what she really needed—which is rehab.
The film says love from another person is not always the answer
The film finally shatters the idea of romantic films that love is the answer. It’s not. Especially with a problem like Jane’s. You may have a perfect partner, but he is not the one who can solely better yourself. Just because you’re in love does not mean you’re fixed. The only thing that can help you is yourself. And that’s okay.
After you have watched the film, and had your heart go on a roller coaster ride, eat and drink your emotions away at O’Learys Hilton Dubai Creek. There’s no other place where you can satisfy your hang-over about On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets than in this place that offers delicious food, great service!
