The long queue in front of the Dubai Mall Reel Cinema entrance on a weekday at around 7pm only signifies that its diehard fans have been waiting for the resurgence of the 35-year old Japanese anime franchise, Dragon Ball, with Dragon Ball Super: Broly. The crowd patiently waited to enter the cinema past 8:30 in the evening super eager to watch the movie.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly has brought back a lot of memories of the past for many that for sure as most of the movie goers were adults; only a handful of youngsters were present. The plot revolves around the revenge of the father of Broly, a Saiyan, as he was exiled to a repugnant place called Vampa due to his super-warrior potential.
Meanwhile, the tyrant evil Frieza took over the intergalactic business. He feared that the Saiyans might pose a threat to them, so he then decided to abolish them and completely destoyed the entire Vegeta planet. Among the survivors who thrive in planet Earth were Kakarot popularly known as Goku (hero of the franchise) and prince Vegeta.
Fans and even the uninitiated were simply kept amused by the action packed encounter of Broly, Goku and Vegeta. It rained cats and dogs of heavy ‘Kamehameha’ (or the Kamehame Wave), brutal kicks, powerful punches and cacophonous explosions of their super powers.
Overall, the movie was as entertaining as its counterpart scads of TV series aired decades ago fraught with some points for its next attraction. A great surprise awaits longtime fans as several Easter eggs from the comics and the anime are abound within its scenes.
The screening of Dragon Ball Super: Broly is in partnership with Informa Global Exhibitions, the organizers of the annual Middle East Film and Comic Con in Dubai taking place this coming April 11-13 and the annual Middle East Games Con in Abu Dhabi happening later this year from October 24-26. The film is distributed here in the Middle East through FrontRow Entertainment.
