GMA-7’s singing competition “The Clash” has named its first-ever winner – Golden Cañedo.
Besting thousands of hopefuls who auditioned and tried out for the said competition, Cañedo has a bright future ahead in the entertainment and music industry as she boasts of having the title as the first-ever winner of GMA’s latest singing competition.

1. She took over the competition despite her age
Cañedo was the youngest contestant among the finalist in “The Clash”. The 16-year-old Cebuana singer performed the song “Ngayon” by George Canseco which gained praises from the judges.
2. She took home 4 million worth of prizes
As part of being the first winner of “The Clash”, Cañedo took home over P4 million worth of prizes including a house and lot, a contract with GMA, and P1 million.
3. She used to join ABS-CBN’s Tawag Ng Tanghalan
Before she joined GMA’s “The Clash”, she used to be a contestant at another singing competition in the rival network.
Cañedo appeared on It’s Showtime’s “Tawag Ng Tanghalan” under the name “Roma Golden Apa-ap” and sang Jona’s version of “Pusong Ligaw”.
Unfortunately, she was not able to win the competition.
4. Many tag her as the next Sarah Geronimo
When Cañedo first appeared on “The Clash”, many were already able to notice that she bears a bit of resemblance to Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo.
Upon winning the said competition, many have tagged her as the “next Sarah Geronimo” or the “Sarah Geronimo of GMA”.
In an interview with PEP.ph, Cañedo said that she feels honored that she is being compared to one of her idols. She added that she will use the comparison to challenge herself to be better at singing.
5. She joined “The Clash” for her cousin
In the same interview with PEP.ph, Cañedo revealed that one of her cousins suffers from a birth defect called anorectal malformation, which means the anus and the rectum did not develop properly.
She said that her cousin would excrete bodily waste through a tube on her stomach.
Cañedo wants to use the money she has won in the competition to pay for her cousin’s operation.
