Comedienne Melai Cantiveros said that she is not the type of person who will publicly display her wealth after she experienced an embarrassing yet funny moment when she tried to be “sosyal”.
During her guesting in Boy Abunda’s late night talk show “Tonight with Boy Abunda”, Cantiveros narrated a failed attempt to be classy when she and her friend decided to eat at a fancy coffee shop.
Cantiveros said that she immediately felt the need to impress the other people eating at the coffee shop with her class when they all turned their heads towards her when she entered the shop.
But her plan immediately backfired when she and her friend began to order their food.
“Pagpasok ko, nag-order agad ako. Sabi ko, ‘pa-order ako’. Pero ‘di ba dapat sa mga restaurant hindi ka mag-o-order, dapat ‘Can I have [the menu?]’,” Cantiveros began narrating.
“Sabi ko, ‘Pa-order ako ng blueverry’. Blueverry yung nasabi ko Tito Boy,” she continued drawing laughter from the people at the studio.
But when she thought that the embarrassment would stop there, her friend decided to order too and said, “Ako naman chestcake”.
Abunda then asked Cantiveros what she has learned from that certain experience, to which she replied, “”Wag kang magpaka-feeling kung talagang hindi ka naman talaga. Huwag mong isiksik sa mga bagay na hindi mo naman kayang i-maintain.”
Abunda agreed with Cantiveros and said that it would be better to just stick with who you truly are as a person.
Cantiveros ended the interview by throwing one last joke.
“Nagagalit nga ako sa sarili ko non kasi bakit pa ako nag-blueverry, sana soft drinks na lang in-order ko,” she said.
