Jake Ejercito, the son of former president and current Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada, was one of the netizens who criticized Kuwaiti blogger Sondos Al Qattan after the latter’s comments about Filipino domestic workers.
Al Qattan, who has over 2.3 million followers on Instagram, ranted on social media and questioned the Kuwaiti government’s reforms on the kafala system which now allows Filipino domestic workers to have the right to days off and possession of their own passports.
The Kuwaiti beauty blogger said that the reform was “pathetic”. She added that maids should not have days off or be allowed to keep their passports because they might run away. And if they do, no one will refund the money she paid for the household helper’s services.
“I don’t want a Filipino maid anymore,” she said in the video.
Al Qattan sparked online uproar with many netizens accusing her of “promoting slavery”, and Ejercito was one of those who called her out.
On his Twitter account, Ejercito retweeted a video about Al Qattan while sharing his own opinion about the controversy.
“Perhaps, [Sondos Al Qattan] should eat her makeup, so she’d be decent on the inside too,” he wrote on Twitter while tagging the Kuwaiti social media star.

Aside from Ejercito, OFW group Migrante International also weighed in on the issue and demanded a public apology from Al Qattan.
In a joint statement with the Association of Domestic Helpers in the Middle East, Migrante said that Al Qattan should “offer public apology and genuinely express remorse for her disgusting statements.”
