Actor-comedian Vice Ganda bared the sacrifices of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) and how they are being ‘abused’ by their dependents in the Philippines.
Vice Ganda detailed scenarios wherein some relatives of OFWs tend to depend too much on them.
“Ang akala ng Pilipino, kapag nagtatrabaho sa ibang bansa, ang dadami ng pera. Akala nila ang sarap ng OFW. Ang gagawin, tatambay, susulat kapag mangungutang. Kapag hindi napautang, galit. Akala mo may patago,” Vice Ganda said during the Sept. 16 episode of ABS-CBN’s noontime show “It’s Showtime”.

The Showtime host also lamented OFW dependents who complained a lot without recognizing overseas workers’ share of suffering, a common scenario depicted in various OFW-themed movies such as “Anak”, “Dubai”, and “A Mother’s Story”.
“Hindi nila kinekwento ang hirap na pinagdadaanan nila dahil ayaw nilang dagdagan ang mga pinagdadaanan [dito sa Pilipinas]. Samantalang di niyo alam kung sila, kumakain pa ba,” he added.
This was echoed by co-host Anne Curtis, who noted that OFWs should also “live their own lives”.
“They really work so hard and hindi palibhasa nasa ibang bansa, yumaman ng bonggang bongga. They have to live and [save up] for themselves,” Curtis added.
Vice Ganda, whose mom worked as a caregiver in the United States, has been a vocal supporter of OFWs.
