The Department of Economic Development (DED) has confiscated thousands of fake items kept in several shops in Dubai.
In a report published by Khaleej Times, members of DED busted sellers of fake items in the Karama market area where shop owners were preparing for a “mega-sale of fake items.”
DED was able to discover secret passages where sellers hide their fake clothes, shoes, accessories and other rip-offs of brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Givenchy. Some stores hid their fake watches and sunglasses under floor tiles.
Shop owners denied selling fake items when they were questioned by the authorities.
The sellers were issued fines through an application called Meydani.
The confiscated fake items were packed and loaded in a truck.
Confiscated items are usually stored inside the DED warehouse for 10 days to give authorities a chance to re-inspect the items should the need arise. They are destroyed afterwards.
