Vietnam has decided to pull out from showing the upcoming animated film ‘Abominable’ after featuring a map showing China’s 9-dash line claims.
The DreamWorks film depicted a scene where the U-shaped line is usually depicting China’s unilateral claim of the South China Sea.
Both Vietnam and the Philippines have contested these claims based on their historical rights.
The Philippines successfully debunked China’s 9-dash line theory after it won its case at the Hague in 2016.
“We will revoke [the film’s license],” Ta Quang Dong, deputy minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism said.
The ministry is in charge of licensing and censoring foreign films.
“Abominable”, tells the story a Chinese girl who discovers a yeti living on her roof.
