Worst airport no more: NAIA off the list of world’s worst airports

The country’s premier gateway is out of the recently released list of worst airports in the world by travel website Sleeping in Airports.

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), which previously held the fifth spot in the annual list, is no longer included as one of the worst airports in the world and in Asia, according to the results of the latest survey released Sunday, October 15.

NAIA landed in the top five of the list partly due to the proliferation of the “laglag or tanim bala” scheme targeting a number of passengers, including overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) where a bullet is dropped or planted inside the luggage making them subject to arrest.

Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade lauded the improvement and said they are taking the challenge to be among the best in the world.

“Work, work, work lang. While it is good that we are not listed among the worst, let us work even harder to be included among the best,” Tugade said.

Four of the country’s airports were included in the best airports in Asia namely Iloilo International Airport (#12), Mactan Cebu International Airport (#13), Davao Francisco Bangay International Airport (#17), and Clark International Airport (#22).

The airports were ranked based on the overall airport experience of travelers based on factors like comfort, services, facilities, food options, immigration, customer service, cleanliness, and ease of transit.
