Newly-opened flyover eases traffic for Deira-bound motorists

The Roads and Transport Authority has opened a new bridge that will ease the flow of traffic for motorists entering Deira from the Airport Street.

Starting Friday (Sept. 15), vehicles on the Airport Street (Marrakech Intersection) on the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road and Al Khawaneej Street may now pass through the Rashidiya Intersection in the direction of Deira through the new flyover, WAM reported.

The Marrakech Intersection Project features an overpass with three lines, a direct ramp from the bridge heading to Terminal 3 of the Dubai International Airport.

The report said the infrastructure will trim the waiting time at the intersection from seven minutes to less than one minute.

Meanwhile, the RTA will close the traffic movement coming from Terminal 1 of the Dubai International Airport heading towards Deira to finalize the remaining works at the new bridge at the Casablanca Intersection (Cargo Village). It will also provide an alternative route through Street No. 51 passing via Casablanca Street.

These phases is expected to increase the vehicular capacity of Airport Road by 5,000 and reduce the travel time on Airport Street from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road to Casablanca Street from 30 minutes to just five minutes.

In total, the Dh404-million Airport Improvement Project, which includes the construction of four interchanges, will reduce the waiting time at the interchange from from 13 minutes to less than a minute.
