A summa cum laude graduate from Marawi City will deliver the valedictory address at this year’s graduation rites at the Univeristy of the Philippines Diliman.
Arman Ali Ghodsinia, who completed a degree in molecular biology and biotechnology, was chosen to be the graduating class speaker, UP Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan announced on Monday.
Ghodsinia comes from a Maranaw family. His academic feat is inspirational considering that his hometown has become a battleground between government forces and Maute militants.
“As a Maranaw and member of an ethnic-religious minority, this feat – as an Iskolar ng Bayan – is a feat to be shared with all,” Arman’s sister Farah said in a Facebook post.
Ghodsinia is graduating from UP-Diliman with a general weighted average of 1.173.
