London Mayor Sadiq Khan has declared “a major incident” in the city as a massive fire hit a 24-story housing in the UK capital on Wednesday.
Around 200 firefighters are battling the fire that broke out at Grenfell Tower 12 at 12:54 am (London time), according to the London Fire Brigade.
“This is a large and very serious incident and we have deployed numerous resources and specialist appliances,” Sky quoted Dan Daly, assistant commissioner at London Fire Brigade, as saying.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. Witnesses said the blaze started on one side of the tower block before engulfing the building in flames from the second to the top floor.
Sky News reported at least 30 injured people have been brought to five hospitals for treatment.
According to Kensington and Chelsea Council, the tower block have 120 flats.
At present, the building is still standing, but huge sheets of cladding are falling off the tower.
