Bomb thrown at US embassy in Ukraine

A suspected terrorist threw an improvised explosive device (IED) at the United States embassy in Kiev, Ukraine early Thursday.

The IED detonated at around 12:05, according to Oksana Blischik, a spokesperson for Kiev’s police.

“The explosion on the territory of the US embassy in Kiev is treated as an act of terrorism,” Blischik said in a Facebook post, noting that no injuries have been reported.

Fox News reported that authorities have started criminal proceedings under Art. 258 (Terrorist Act) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In 2016, the US State Department issued a travel warning for US citizens in Ukraine, where pro-Russian separatists are resisting government troops in the eastern part of the country.
