Crossing desert frontiers: Top Eid Al Adha getaways across the UAE

Filipino expats are surely looking forward to planning a short holiday as the upcoming four or five days of Eid Al Adha holiday in the UAE draws near.

Since the Islamic Hijri calendar is based on moon sighting, Islamic months span over 29 or 30 days – unlike 31 days in Gregorian calendar. Based on calculations, if the current month of DhulQadah ends after 30 days, the private sector could have a five-day break.

Local reports in the UAE project that private sector employees will most likely have holidays from September 9 to 13 and resume work on Wednesday, September 14.

If the current Islamic month of Zulqada spans over 29 days, then the private sector will most likely have four holidays from September 9 to September 12. That means the public sector in the UAE can enjoy the 9-day break for Eid Al Fitr this year.

Masafi is a town in Fujairah located along the Hajar Mountains. In Arabic it means “opera water”. In the past Masafi was a trading post and refuelling station, but it has grown to be recognized along the country, also because of its natural springs that give rise to a famous brand of mineral water in the UAE.

Masafi is famous for its Friday Market for shopping. Despite its name, the market is open all seven days of week. It is located along the Dubai-Fujairah road, as you approach Masafi.

It is amust-stop place for tourists who can pick up earthenware, rugs, souvenirs, antiques and even garden plants and fruits and vegetables along the way.
