Manila, Philippines: Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) administrator Hans Leo Cacdac warned Filipinos planning to work abroad to be cautious in dealing with recruiters amidst many reports of illegal recruitment in the United Arab Emirates.
Cacdac said the recruiters are allegedly promising their victims jobs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi as domestic workers, an article published by GMA News Online disclosed.
“Mag-ingat po sa naglipanang illegal recruiter ng kasambahay para sa UAE: Abu Dhabi o Dubai,” Cacdac tweeted.
Cacdac issued the warning after two OFWs hired as domestic helpers in Dubai were offloaded at the Clark International Airport after being found to be illegally recruited.
Aside from this, the POEA administrator also related two more incidents involving Filipino maids, who were deployed overseas by exiting in Tawi-Tawi and passing through Sabah and Malaysia. They were recently repatriated from Abu Dhabi after being subjected to series of abuse by their employers.
Cacdac appealed to the public, especially those who seek employment abroad to be vigilant against illegal recruitment activities in their communities.
“Paki-report lang po ang anumang sinasagawa na illegal recruitment o human trafficking,” he was quoted saying.
The POEA chief, have already alerted other member-agencies of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), such as the Bureau of Immigration, Department of Justice, Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, and the Manila International Airport Authority.
Cacdac also invited through a tweet, those planning to seek work overseas to log in to their website: “Payong POEA … Sukob na! Log on po tayo sa online PEOS o Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar para sa nag-iisip-isip”.
