Globe Telecom Inc. wants to build more cell sites nationwide and urged the government to implement policies to ease restrictions.
At a Power Summit event held in Globe’s Bonifacio Global City offices Friday, Globe Chief Technology and Information Officer Gil B. Genio said building more cell sites would enable telco firms, as well as their customers to save on power consumption.
“The more dense cell sites we have, the less power these cell sites consume. This is a message we want to convey to our public sector. Allow us to build more cell sites so we can effectively manage our energy consumption,” Genio said.
Globe is consuming 360 megawatt hours of electricity equivalent to P3.5 billion to power its network every year.
For the past three years, Globe’s network has been consuming 9 million liters of diesel fuel annually, amounting to PHP348 million.
The company also said it almost doubled the deployment of green network solutions to 6,314 in 2018 from just 3,350 in 2017.
Meanwhile, the Department of Information and Communications Technology is set to finalize within the year its policy on allowing the sharing of cell sites and other communication infrastructures for telcos to improve the delivery of their services.
